The parish was founded in 1910 by immigrants from the Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires and at first occupied a purchased building in Roxbury. In 1948 the parish bought a site at 165 Park Drive; the new cathedral was designed by the architect Constantine Pertzoff, a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Design. The construction contract was signed in 1950, the lower hall was consecrated on 3 February 1952, the upper church was built in 1959–1960, and Metropolitan Leonty consecrated the cathedral on 16 October 1960. The cathedral belongs to the Diocese of New England of the Orthodox Church in America.
