Immigrants from Russia began settling in Springfield in the early 1890s; on 5 October 1905 Archpriest Alexander Hotovitsky celebrated the first liturgy here. In 1909 the community purchased the present building on Park Street, which was dedicated by Bishop Alexander (Nemolovsky). In 1915 the adjacent house was acquired; until the mid-1920s it housed an Orthodox orphanage transferred from Brooklyn. The parish belongs to the Diocese of New England of the Orthodox Church in America.
