The parish was founded in 1917 by Russian immigrants living in the Strawberry Hill neighbourhood, known in the early twentieth century as 'Russian Hill'; according to the present owner, the church building at 556 Lowell Avenue was built in 1917. A photograph of about 1920 in the Kansas Historical Society collection shows the congregation on the steps of its church. In the late 1990s the growing parish sold this building and built a new church in Overland Park, completed in 2002; around 2012 the former church was bought by the founder of the Voler aerial arts studio, which operates in the building.
