In 1898 twelve families of Slavic immigrants in the Globeville neighbourhood mortgaged their homes to buy six lots at the corner of 47th Avenue and Logan Street, and in September of that year laid the cornerstone of the church. In 1904 the community turned to the Orthodox bishop in America and was received by Bishop Tikhon (Bellavin), who consecrated the church in 1905. The Denver Public Library describes the 1898 building as combining Gothic and Eastern Orthodox elements. The cathedral belongs to the Diocese of the West of the Orthodox Church in America.
