The mansion at Park Avenue and 93rd Street was built in 1918 for the financier Francis F. Palmer to designs by Delano & Aldrich and enlarged in 1928–1931 by the banker George F. Baker Jr. In 1958, through a donation by the Russian-born banker Serge Semenenko and the generosity of Mrs. Edith Kane Baker, it passed to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia; the ballroom became the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign and the east building houses the Synod of Bishops. The complex is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
