According to the National Register nomination form, the wooden chapel was built in 1898 under Bishop Tikhon over the grave of the monk Herman, a member of the first Orthodox mission to Alaska who was later canonised. The main volume of about 22 by 20 feet has a hip roof with a cross; the altar section and vestibule were added later. The chapel was listed on the US National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
