The parish was founded in 1936 by Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko) on land given to him, which he deeded to the parish; the first chapel, to drawings by V. Zavalishin, was built in under three months and blessed on 21 June 1936. On 12 September 1989 the cornerstone of a new cathedral designed by architect N. S. Karsanoff was laid, with the rector, Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, an engineer by training, directing construction. The lesser consecration took place in 1994 and the great consecration in October 1997. The cathedral belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.
