The building was erected in 1848–1849 by the architect Lewis Vulliamy as the Anglican Church of All Saints; the façade was remodelled in 1887–1897. In 1956 the Russian parish moved into the disused church, which was dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, and in 1978 it was bought by the Diocese of Sourozh. It is a Grade II* listed building.
