An Orthodox church dedicated to Alexander Nevsky in the new part of Kars; its exact construction date is unknown and it is usually dated to 1885–1890, when the Kars Oblast was part of the Russian Empire (1878–1918). Rectangular in plan and built of dressed stone, it had, judging by old photographs, an onion dome over the sanctuary and a bell tower over the narthex, which have not survived. In 1953–1970 the building served as an indoor sports hall. In 1985 two minarets were added and it became the Fethiye Mosque.
