The parish of Christ the Saviour was founded in 1950 by Fr Alexey Godyaew. Its first church was a house on Pirie Street, paid off by the community by 1955; it was sold in 1995 and the parish bought a building on Webb Street, which was sold in July 2000 because it was an earthquake hazard. A month later the parish bought the present building on Darlington Road in Miramar and converted it into a church.
