The Rabat parish was organised in 1927 by Hieromonk Varsonofy (Tolstukhin), sent from Paris at the request of Russian émigrés. The plot was donated by a Rabat resident, Moulay Ahmed Djebli, who was married to a Russian subject; in 1929 a deed of sale was drawn up for a symbolic one franc on condition that the land be used only for a Russian church. The church was built in 17 months and consecrated in 1932 by Metropolitan Evlogy (Georgievsky).
