JapanИсиномаки1880Public buildings
A two-storey wooden prayer house built in 1880 by the Orthodox community of Ishinomaki, which grew out of the preaching of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Japan; the city describes it as the oldest surviving wooden church building in the country. After the 1978 earthquake it was moved to Nakaze Park and in 1980 designated a tangible cultural property of the city. It was damaged by the 2011 tsunami; reconstruction was completed in October 2018.
