The country residence of the Russian mission in the village of Zargandeh north of Tehran (now within the city, in the Elahieh district), where diplomats worked in the summer months in the Qajar era; according to Iranian publications, the village was placed at the disposal of the Russian envoy by a decree of Mohammad Shah in 1844. In 1886 the first Russian church in Persia, dedicated to St Alexander Nevsky, was built in the residence. In July 1909 Mohammad Ali Shah took refuge here. The estate remains the northern residence of the Russian embassy.
