The monastery occupies a former manor estate in the Uckermark, about 50 km north of Berlin. In 2006 the Berlin Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church acquired the estate for a symbolic 1 euro on condition of investing at least 3 million euros in its restoration within 15 years; in 2007 the monastery was established by decision of the Holy Synod, and the first monks moved in in 2011. A church of St George in the North Russian style was built on the grounds, and the cross on its dome was consecrated in 2013. It is the only monastery of the Berlin Diocese.
