The decision to build a church for the resort's Russian visitors was taken in 1879; services had previously been held in a room of the Villa Eugénie. The church on Avenue de l'Impératrice was completed by 1892; the Mérimée database names the architects Tisnos and Nikonoff. It is a French historic monument owned by the Russian Orthodox religious association of Biarritz.
