The main church of the Taipale Orthodox Parish, built in 1906, when Finland was a grand duchy within the Russian Empire, to a design by the Sortavala master builder J. O. Leander. According to the parish, most of the funds were donated by the Russian merchant Ivan Stretskov, at whose wish the church was dedicated to the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. It was consecrated on 9 November 1906 by Archbishop Sergius.
