A barracks complex on the northern shore of the Katajanokka peninsula, built in 1816–1820 to designs by C. L. Engel to house Russian troops in Helsinki; Finland was then part of the Russian Empire. An officers' building by Engel was completed in 1836 and a hospital designed by A. F. Granstedt two years later. The eastern part of Katajanokka served as one of the bases of the Baltic Fleet. In the 1980s the complex was restored and extended to designs by Erik Kråkström for the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
