A wooden barracks complex built in 1880–1881 by the authorities of the Grand Duchy of Finland, then part of the Russian Empire, for the Oulu Sharpshooter Battalion of the Finnish forces to standard designs by the architect August Boman. It originally comprised about thirty buildings around a rectangular parade ground with a park. After the Finnish forces were disbanded, Russian units moved in in 1902, initially a battalion of the 4th Finland Rifle Regiment. From 1918 Finnish army units were stationed here; military use ended in the late 1990s.
