The three-storey main building of the Imperial Finnish Cadet Corps, which operated in Hamina from 1821 to 1903; Finland was then part of the Russian Empire as a Grand Duchy. The design by the architect Jac. Ahrenberg was developed from 1893 and the foundation stone was laid on 18 May 1897. The corps grounds occupy almost a quarter of the fortress town near the Vyborg Gate and include a riding hall, a hospital and other buildings designed by C. L. Engel and E. B. Lohrmann. After 1917 the buildings passed to the Finnish army and later to the Reserve Officer School.
