An urban barracks quarter built in 1882–1883 by the authorities of the Grand Duchy of Finland, then part of the Russian Empire, for the Hämeenlinna Sharpshooter Battalion; the design work was led by the architect August Boman. In 1902 Russian troops moved in, and in the early 1910s the quarter was extended with brick buildings including an officers' club and three-storey barracks. After 1917 it remained in military use until the end of 2014. The state company Senate Properties then sold it to Y-K Finland; the buildings have been converted to housing, offices and shops.
