The Northern Compound (Beiguan) in Beijing was from the late 17th century the settlement of the Albazin Cossacks and from 1716 to 1956 the grounds of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission. In 1959 the Embassy of the USSR moved to the site. Surviving mission buildings include the Dormition Church, restored in 2008–2009, the library building and the residence of the head of the mission.
