1904–1905Public buildings
The oldest Orthodox church in Winnipeg: the community was started around 1898 by immigrants from the Russian Empire and Greece, and the present building on Manitoba Avenue was constructed in 1904. In 1905 it was consecrated by Bishop Tikhon (Bellavin), then head of the Russian Orthodox mission in North America. From 1916, when the first bishop was assigned, it served as the first cathedral of the Canadian diocese. The parish now belongs to the Archdiocese of Canada of the Orthodox Church in America; services are held in Church Slavonic and English.
