The parish was founded in 1927 and has been on Saint-Joseph Boulevard in Outremont since 1964. The building was erected in 1911 as St. Giles Presbyterian Church to a design by architects Edward and W. S. Maxwell, later served as a synagogue and was bought by the Orthodox community in 1964. In 1998 the cathedral was damaged by a fire that left three walls standing; the nave reopened in 2001 and the rebuilding was completed in 2007. The cathedral belongs to the Diocese of Montreal and Canada of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.
