The parish was founded in 1924; its first church at 7th Avenue and Fir Street, consecrated in 1929, was demolished for the new Granville Bridge, and the city provided the community with a site on 43rd Avenue. The present building was constructed in 1953–1954 to a design by architect Ross Lort and consecrated in May 1954 by Metropolitan Leonty (Turkevich). The church belongs to the Archdiocese of Canada of the Orthodox Church in America; in 2022 it received a Vancouver Heritage Foundation conservation grant.
