The church stands on a hill on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River near Smoky Lake. It was built by settlers from Bukovina in 1909–1912 under the direction of Stephan Rosychuk: a cruciform log structure with a tiered roof and octagonal onion domes. In 2003 the building was designated a Provincial Historic Resource of Alberta. The parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Canada of the Orthodox Church in America.
