The parish with which the history of Russian Orthodoxy in Brazil began: the country's first Russian Orthodox church was built here in 1912 by settlers from the Russian Empire and dedicated to St. John the Theologian. The present church building, according to Wikipedia, was erected in 1955. In 1987 the parish passed from the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia to the Moscow Patriarchate's Argentine diocese; the centenary of the Russian community was celebrated here in October 2009.
