The Russian Orthodox parish in Cabramatta took shape at the turn of the 1950s; the first services were held in a small house on the site converted into a church. In 1953 the Russian architect Michael Miklashevsky drew up plans for a new church on John Street. The church, with a gilded cupola about 33.5 metres high and room for 600 people, was officially opened on 1 February 1969 by Bishop Konstantin. The parish belongs to the Australian and New Zealand Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
