In 1952, with the support of the Russian community that had grown after the Second World War, a block of land on Barbara Street in Fairfield was bought and construction of a church began. Because of a shortage of funds a temporary timber building was put up first; the church was completed and opened in 1956. The parish belongs to the Australian and New Zealand Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
